Best Hotels for attending the Boston Comic Con

Every August Boston Comic Con holds their annual conference at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Known to the locals as the BCEC, the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center is located in South Boston Waterfront. With limited hotel room inventory in the Boston Waterfront, aka the Seaport District, prices for hotels are forecast to increase exponentially as the convention approaches. A two night stay over the convention at any of the hotels located near the BCEC are forecast to cost an average of $250.00 - $400.00 per night. Comic Con fans visiting Boston for the convention may benefit from booking their hotel rooms early. Listed below are our suggested hotels for the Boston Comic Con.

1. The Element Boston Seaport (Located on D Street across the street from the BCEC)

One of the newest hotels in the Boston Seaport District, the Element Hotel is an extended stay hotel with an environmentally friendly focus. The hotel is owned by Starwood, now Marriott. Located on D street the hotel is located directly across the street from the BCEC. Many of the hotel guest rooms feature suite style rooms with kitchenettes. This will be helpful for anyone trying to save money on food. Designed for the health conscious the hotel features a free healthy start breakfast, outdoor space, and a state of the art fitness center. Many of the popular Seaport District bars and restaurants are located only 3-4 city blocks away. For those looking for a more authentic Boston experience South Boston aka "Southie" is also only a short walk away.

2. The Seaport Hotel World City Trade Center (Located on the Congress Street 2 blocks from the BCEC)

Number two on our list is the recently renovated Seaport Hotel. Independently owned by Fidelity this hotel consistently ranks in the top 5 for best hotels in Boston on The 428 room hotel offers a variety of guest rooms with free Wi-Fi, a heated indoor pool, and the Tamo Terrace, an outdoor bar, great for people watching on Northern Avenue. (Please note Tamo Terrace is located on the opposite side of the hotel from the BCEC.) The hotel is located on Congress street and offers easy access to the BCEC, as well as to the popular bars and restaurants in the Seaport District. Including Whiskey Priest (Irish Pub with a young crowd and rooftop water views), Boston Beer Garden (A variety of beers, a young crowd, and rooftop water views) and Rosa Mexicana (high end Mexican cuisine). This hotel will be in high demand during the Boston Comic Con weekend.

3. The Westin Waterfront (Located on D Street, attached to the BCEC)

Attached to the BCEC via an internal footbridge the Westin Waterfront offers the best logistical option. With 793 guest rooms the Westin Waterfront is the only convention style hotel on the list. The largest hotel in the Boston Waterfront, the Westin Waterfront features 5 restaurants on property including, Laugh Boston, Birch Bar, City Bar, Irish Pub M'J O’Connor’s, and Sauciety. The busy hotel will offer a very energetic atmosphere to enjoy the Comic Con festivities during the weekend. For those looking to check out the neighborhood the hotel is only few blocks from Liberty Wharf or the popular Fort Point bars and restaurants, including Papagayo (budget friendly Mexican), Row 34 (Amazing Lobster rolls with outdoor seating), Lucky's, (a Sinatra style ratskellar with no sign, and a great place to shake out the morning cobwebs.)

4. Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel (Located on the Congress Street 3 city blocks from the BCEC)

Opening in 2008 the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel is located on the Congress Street, a few city blocks from the BCEC. The hotel ranks number 4 on our list for its proximity to the BCEC as well as it's Boston Harbor views offered by many of the guest rooms. The Renaissance Boston Waterfront is a boutique style hotel with all of the amenities and services of a convention hotel. The hotel offers large guest rooms, 24 hour health club, a posh restaurant complete with outdoor seating, free Wi-Fi in the lobby, and live music in Capiz lounge on Friday and Saturday nights. Capiz Lounge features an oval bar, local beers, and floor to ceiling windows. The Renaissance is also 1/2 a city block to Liberty Wharf, a waterfront restaurant and bar complex in the Seaport District with many popular bars and restaurants including LTK (casual seafood restaurant with cheap PBR's) DelFriscos, (high end steakhouse with waterfront dining) Legal Seafood (3 floors of seafood, including an open air bar and views of Boston Harbor), and Tony C's (sports bar with large screen TV’s and waterfront views).

5. The Aloft Boston Seaport (Located on D Street directly across from the BCEC and next door to The Element Hotel)

The Aloft hotel is a Millennial friendly limited service hotel located next door to The Element Hotel noted above. Also located on D street the Aloft Seaport is located directly across the street from the Lawn On D. The Lawn on D is a 2.7 acre park that is open to anyone but is designed for adults including glow in the dark swings, a concert pavilion, table tennis, corn hole, and an outdoor tent to buy a few beers. With limited restaurant options inside the hotel, guests will need to walk a few blocks to Liberty Wharf or across the street to the Westin Waterfront.

6. Residence Inn Seaport Distract (located 4 city blocks from the BCEC)

The 2nd extended stay hotel on our list, the refurbished factory now hotel offers large guest rooms with fully equipped kitchens. Located in Fort Port, the hotel is only few blocks from the BCEC and across the street from the popular Fort Point bars Lucky's, Tavern road, and Barlow’s. Despite being classified as a select service hotel, the property offers free breakfast each morning, free Wi-Fi, a hotel bar, and an onsite fitness center. For those traveling with a large group, or looking for more guest room space and a kitchen this will be the best option in the Seaport District. Please note with only a 122 rooms this hotel will sell out quickly before the convention.

7. The Envoy Hotel Boston (located 6 city blocks from the BCEC)

Number 7 on our list, the Envoy Hotel, is located six city blocks from the BCEC. With no double double rooms this hotel is geared for a single traveler, or a couple traveling to attend the convention. The posh hotel offers stylish guest rooms, water views, fitness center, and the popular Lookout Bar, one of only three rooftop bars in the city of Boston. The Lookout Bar features water and skyline views of Boston as well a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The hotel is located directly across the street from the Barking Crab (outdoor deck and tent area offers a fun and authentic Boston bar experience), The Daily Catch (high end seafood with waterfront dining) and The Boston Harbor Walk, (leisurely walk around Boston harbor offers amazing views of the city).

8. The Intercontinental Hotel (located 8 city blocks from the BCEC)

Number 8 on our list the Intercontinental Hotel is undoubtedly one of the nicest hotels in the city of Boston. The beautifully designed hotel is located approximately 8 city blocks from the BCEC, and offers well-appointed guest rooms, a manicured lawn area at the front of the hotel, and a variety of posh restaurants inside the property. The high end restaurants include RumBa, a rum and champagne bar, as well as Sushi-Tek which serves a variety craft tequila cocktails, margaritas, and sushi. For those looking to get out of the hotel, the Intercontinental is steps from Smith Wollensky's (a popular steakhouse with a great location), and Trade (casual American Bistro with craft cocktails and an old school beer menu.) Always priced at a premium in Boston be prepared to pay more for the Intercontinental guest rooms, amenities and services during the convention.

9. Yotel Boston. (Located 6 city blocks from the BCEC)
The newest hotel in the Boston Seaport District the Yotel Boston is a Micro Hotel scheduled to open in July of 2017.
Guest rooms known as cabins will average 175 to 225 square feet. The hotel will feature a 12th floor rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the Boston Waterfront, a bar with outdoor seating, self check-in and a 24 hour gym. Located in the heart of the Seaport District, near the fan pier, the Yotel Boston is conveniently located to the MBTA silver line Courthouse stop, and many popular fast casual restaurants including, Shake Shake, Chipotle, Yo Sushi, Tikkaway Grill, Peets Coffee, and many more budget friendly food options.

For anyone looking for a more authentic Boston experience and a little more space, there are approximately 100 Airbnb listings currently available in South Boston and the South Boston Waterfront. Prices are currently ranging from $108 - $380 a night.
